The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak has today announced an extension to the furlough scheme that is currently helping millions of workers through the coronavirus crisis.
In excess of 6 million people are currently having up to 80% of their salaries paid by the Government during the pandemic in a huge Government intervention designed to help businesses.
Earlier this week the Chancellor had warned that he wanted to “wean” people and businesses off the programme which was originally set to run until the end of June.
Mr Sunak has today revealed there will be no changes to the current scheme until the end of July. After that, the scheme will continue “for all sectors in all regions of the UK with greater flexibility”.
The Government has committed to publish full details by the end of this month of the support that will be in place from August.
